"I was given two of your excellent greetings cards from your own remarkable paintings – what an extraordinary talent you are gifted with!
I have a love of Hares and my favourite is your painting I can see you "

“We commissioned Colin for a painting of our two dogs; Bramble a Jack Russell and Coogee a German Shepherd. Colin worked with photo’s he took himself, which were not easy to get as when one of the dogs sat with me to “pose” the other got jealous and the photo opportunity was gone so Colin had to work quick to get the shot!
The final result was beyond all our expectations. With two dogs of different proportions you might be concerned that the painting would look ‘odd’, but we needn’t have worried, Colin had taken this into account. The picture has pride of place above our fireplace and Colin even took time to help us choose the correct mount and frame.
We would like to say at once how ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED we are with the painting, so much so we commissioned Colin for a second picture this time of our thatched cottage Holly Cottage another great success.
We are a very pleased client and would have no hesitation in recommending Colin to our friends, family and colleagues, and we look forward to commissioning another piece of work shortly.”

“Colin executed an extremely life-like painting of our beloved cairn terrier Hilda , following her death in the summer of 2009. The commission came from our friends in the UK, who are also cairn owners. We supplied our favourite photographs of Hilda, and Colin set to work. We were amazed how Colin perfectly captured Hilda’s character in the work, when we received it in the mail this past Christmas. The impressive details of his technique ‘blew us away’ – we are designers ourselves, so that’s the greatest compliment. Hilda’s character and demeanour is all there – which is very impressive, seeing as he never actually had the opportunity of meeting her in life. The style of Colin’s work is ‘key’ – It’s not just a static rendering from a photograph that other artist’s might offer a customer. In Hilda’s case, he almost ‘brought her back to life’ – uncanny!
We have something hanging on our wall here in the States that will always remind us of Hilda’s spirit and wonderful personality.
Thanks so much Colin.”

“We commissioned Colin to paint the portraits of our two cairn terriers after seeing some animal paintings Colin had done in a local Art Gallery. We were struck by the quality of the paintings and how he portrayed the animals, bringing them to life on the canvas. We had seen nothing like them before. Colin has done us proud and we have been delighted with our portraits of Tiga and Skye . His approach is both professional and sensitive and Colin keeps you informed throughout the whole process. He came to meet our dogs and photographed them prior to painting. They certainly enjoyed the attention, but it also meant that Colin could stroke them and recreate their shaggy coats so realistically on canvas. It is his attention to detail that makes the portraits so special. He has captured the personalities of both our dogs so accurately that, in spite of their deaths last year, we feel they are still with us.

“The portrait of our Black Labrador Dougal is absolutely excellent. You feel you could stroke his coat”.

“We are extremely pleased with the way your portrait of Riley has captured his character and likeness. Although Riley is a rescue dog, he is a valuable member of our family. We consider him intelligent and the way you’ve painted him conveys his eagerness to please. Thank you so much for giving us a permanent record of Riley in his prime at just two and half years old.”

“I commissioned Colin to produce some artwork of Stags heads ( Ralph , Lucas and Oscar ) for my dining room and I am very pleased with the results. He produced 3 pictures, each with different profiles of the stags heads. I particularly like the one facing away as it is very unusual. All three pictures are very well done and have a good likeness of the original photographs. Colin’s work is of very high standard and far exceeded my expectations. Colin has subsequently produced a second piece of work in the form of a caricature type picture of my husband Keith fishing. The work is just what I asked for and of a very high standard. I would not hesitate to recommend him for all types of artwork requirements”.

“Colin’s first horse portrait was of my charismatic Anglo Arab, Smash . I provided him with a photograph taken on a hunting morning, which I thought best captured his qualities and left Colin to it. I am absolutely amazed and delighted with how he has managed to reproduce those qualities from photo to painting, so much that Smash has been recognised by those that know him when Colin has displayed his portrait at exhibitions and at my local tack shop. Colin has managed to not only replicate a photograph but more than that, he has brought out the essence of Smash’s character in a painting. His portrait has pride of place in my house, where I smile every time I look at his cheeky face”.

“Having seen a portfolio of Colin’s work I decided to commission him to paint a portrait of my horse Sausage . Armed with a camera, Colin paid several visits to the horse’s field where he got to understand something of his personality, while very patiently taking numerous photographs to record the exact colouring and details of “Sausage”. When the first sketches were ready Colin came on another site visit so that he could “tweak” the drawings according to my instructions until he had the positioning and expression exactly as I wanted it to be. Colin then went back to his studio to do the painting.
When I saw the finished portrait I was totally stunned. Every detail is so perfect that many people who see it can’t believe it is not a photograph. Each time I look at the picture I am convinced that “Sausage” is in the room with me and that if I touch it I will feel him.
Sadly since the portrait was done my beloved horse has died. I am now so thankful that I have this beautiful painting of him to treasure for the rest of my life and to help fill the void he has left.
I can thoroughly recommend every aspect of Colin’s work to anyone who wants to capture some of the warmth and happiness a pet brings, in an everlasting piece of art.”

“I commissioned Colin to paint a portrait of my fathers Aberdeen Angus bull Emerald , as a present for his birthday. Colin came with me to see Emerald in his field and took lots of photographs and then emailed me various pictures for me to select the one that I wanted him to base the portrait on.
With the final portrait, Colin has captured Emeralds likeness perfectly and also he has captured the essence of his character.
My father is delighted with the portrait and says “good morning” to it every day.
I would recommend Colin to anyone who is thinking about having a portrait painted. “

“Having seen, and loved, a wonderful painting by Colin of a Terrier and a German Shepherd where they both leap off the page I asked him whether he would consider doing one of my Norwich Terrier, Bunny . He agreed and I then changed my mind and asked him to do a drawing and, subsequently, sent him a photograph.

I cannot get over the portrait of Bunny that Colin has drawn, particularly as, unlike most of his commissions, he had not seen her and had only one photo to work from. He seems to capture her character more strongly than the photo. She is a dear little dog and a thinker” and the attentive expression in her eyes that Colin has exactly caught is so very much her. It is a heavenly drawing and I am absolutely thrilled with it – and I am sure Bunny, who I think is a little vain, would be too!”

Robina, London

“Just wanted to thank you for the wonderful portrait that you painted for my husband’s birthday, of his much loved Poodle, Poppy . He was thrilled with it. At first he thought it was a photo of her. It was so much like her, you really captured her character.
Once again thank you very much”.

Anne, Frimley, Surrey.

“Just a little note to say a big “Thank you” for the wonderful portrait that you have done of Kia , it captures her brilliantly. Everyone that sees it is very impressed and their initial reaction is “Wow”!
Wishing you every success for the future –you have a great talent".
